Get To Know Us and What We Do
After discovering a lack of awareness for Multiple Sclerosis in the Rio Grande Valley, Lucia Rivera founded the South Texas Multiple Sclerosis Council in 2015. Her daughter, Lori, had also been diagnosed with MS at the time.
This non-profit organization has not only brought people living with MS in the RGV together but has also been established as a resource for patients, as well as their family and friends. Many people have joined the organization in search of support and a way to talk to others who are experiencing similar symptoms.

My daughter, Lorena, was diagnosed with MS in October 2015. After her diagnosis, our world as we knew it came to an end because this monster, as it's known to us, has taken over our baby's body and we can't fight it because there is no cure. We will not accept the fact that there is no cure.

Dina was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in September 2016 at the age of 41. Dina is married with 4 children from a happily blended family. Dina is a former ASL Interpreter and licensed massage therapist/instructor.
Janie Hurtado
Parliament
Janie was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 2009. She worked as a nurse but now is a stay at home mom of two boys, Edgar Jr. and Ricky. MS has given her a different outlook on life and now does not take anything for granted.
